RANJobs spark debate at The Recruiters Network

This months Recruiters Network event, hosted by Broadbean Technology and UK Recruiter, was its most controversial yet as delegates grilled Recruitment Agency Network members on their purpose and intentions of setting up RANJobs, a database of vacancies of RAN members.

Jane Wylie-Roberts, Stafffinders MD, presented at the event and answered several probing questions before host, Dan McGuire, Broadbean Technology, halted the lengthy discussion about the Scottish-based network.

Stephen O'Donnell, a member of the Recruitment Agency Network and Founder of Alljobs.co.uk, who also spoke to the 70- strong audience of recruiters, insists that RANJobs is a natural evolutionary step in the growing industry that is online recruitment.

He pointed out that Reed.co.uk has proved that agencies can successfully advertise their vacancies on a medium that is different to the established job boards. He says, "Recruitment agencies already invest heavily in their own websites, as well as advertising on job boards. It is already established then that recruiters are able to use their own medium to attract candidates. RANjobs is merely the next logical step, and is no threat to the existing players in online recruitment."

One of the points raised by a delegate was that, in a competitive market, data sharing must be potentially risky? O'Donnell thinks not, adding, "The pool of candidates will be available to all members. Already we see that commercial websites provide this, so the principle is no different."

The first Scottish Recruiters Network event was held at The Lighthouse, in the hub of Glasgow city centre.
